Some of the most spectacular specimens come from Namibia, where unusually large, transparent crystals have produced breathtaking red gemstones that can rival the appearance of fine Ruby or Garnet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChemically, Cuprite is a copper oxide with the formula Cu₂O, containing copper and oxygen arranged in the cubic, or isometric, crystal system. It belongs to the oxide mineral group and commonly develops as sharply defined cubes, octahedra, combinations of these crystal shapes, granular masses, or delicate hairlike crystals known as chalcotrichite. Cuprite forms primarily as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, where oxygen-rich groundwater alters copper-bearing minerals closer to Earth's surface. Native Copper, Malachite, Azurite, Chalcocite, Chrysocolla, Calcite, and iron oxides can occur alongside it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIts color ranges from brilliant ruby red and deep crimson to purplish red, brownish red, and nearly black.
