Lepidocrocite, also known as Esmeraldite or Hydrohematite, is an iron oxide-hydroxide mineral. It forms when iron-containing substances rust underwater. Lepidocrocite is named after the Greek word “lipis” meaning scale and “krokis” meaning fiber. Lepidocrocite, Goethite, and Feroxyhyte are polymorphic meaning they have the same chemical formula but with different structures.
