It was first described in 1824 by François Sulpice Beudant and named after the discoverer, American mineralogist, Archibald Bruce (1777–1818). Its commonly found near and associated with Aragonite, Calcite, Dolomite, Magnesite, Marble, Serpentine, and Talc. Brucite can also be found inmetamorphic rocks and hydrothermal veins.
