Orbicular Jasper, also known as "Ocean Jasper", is the trade name for a silicified rhyolite with concentric orbs or spherical banded formations called spherulite. Some pieces may contain banded agate, quartz or druzy. This enchanting stone originates almost exclusively from the beautiful shores Madagascar but it can also be found in the USA, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Australia. Orbicular Jasper was first discovered in 1922, but its specific location was lost causing it to vanish from the mineral world until it was rediscovered in the early 2,000's. It was given its trade name Ocean Jasper because it's located along the shoreline in Madagascar and can only be mined when the tide levels are low.
