Herkimer Diamond is the trade name for highly collectible double terminated Clear Quartz crystals mined in Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley. Similar double terminated crystals are found in many other locations like Arizona, Afghanistan, Norway, Ukraine, and China, although, its incorrect to refer to them as Herkimer Diamond.

Contrary to the name, Herkimers are not real Diamonds but Quartz! The name "diamond" is used to describe their exceptional clarity and well formed faces. It can be used as an alternate for the April Birthstone, DiamondHerkimer Diamonds are typically double terminated because of the crystals growing with very little or no contact with their host rock. The host rock of Herkimer Diamonds are Cambrian-age, Little Falls Dolostone geological formation. The Little Falls Dolostone deposit is from about 500 million years ago and the Herkimers formed in cavities within the dolostone. Herkimer Diamonds can have inclusions like solids, liquids (salt water or petroleum) and gases (usually carbon dioxide). A black hydrocarbon is the most common solid inclusion.

The Mohawk Native Americans referred to themselves as "Kanyenkehaka" which translates to "The People of the Crystals" and the valley where they lived was known as "the Place of Crystals". They were the first documented collectors and traders of Herkimer Diamonds. Mohawk Natives made amulets and jewelry with Herkimer Diamonds, even burying their past loved ones with Herkimers.

Clear Quartz, also known as “Rock Crystal”, is pure silicon dioxide. Clear Quartz is named from the Greek word “krystallos”, meaning “ice”. Quartz is a mineral composed of silicon and oxygen, with a chemical composition of SiO 2 . All other varieties of Quartz, such as purple Amethyst, yellow Citrine, green Praisolite, or pink Rose Quartz are colored due to tiny inclusions in the silica. Quartz is the most abundant mineral on Earth and found all over it! Most of the sand in the world's beaches is actually the mineral Quartz. Quartz is resistant to weathering so as some rocks weather away, Quartz will remain. It forms at all temperatures and is abundant in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.

Herkimer Diamond is known as the "Stone of Attunement" because of its powerful ability to help you connect with Spirit/Source/God and spirit guides. Beloved by healers, shamans and psychics for their ability to connect you to the spirit realm, Herkimer Diamonds help you communicate with angels, past loved ones and other spirit guides. Herkimer Diamonds are incredible stones for energy work and manifestation because of their powerful ability to amplify energy.
