Verde Valley Agate
Verde Valley Agate is found in the Verde Valley in central Arizona. Its striking colors, patterns and origins, makes this beautiful stone highly coveted by gemstone collectors. The Verde River flows through the Verde Valley and is one of Arizona's last free-flowing river systems. This sacred area is close to the Montezuma Castle National Monument which protects an area of dwellings in Campe Verde, Arizona. These dwellings were built and used by Sinagua people, a pre-Colombian culture, from approximately AD 1100-1425.
Agates are a translucent variety of microcrystalline quartz. Agate typically forms by the deposition of silica from groundwater in the cavities of igneous rocks. Agates form in concentric layers around the walls of the cavity, or in horizontal layers building up from the bottom. This produces the banded patterns that are found on many agates. Some of these cavities are lined with crystals which is called a geode.
Agates are among the first gemstones worn in jewelry, dating back thousands of years ago. Agates are beloved by healers for their incredible programmable properties. Agates help you ground into the healing energy from Mother Earth.
