How Crystals Work: The Science of Crystal Healing

Disclaimer: Crystals are not a replacement for traditional medicine, you must seek a doctor for specific medical advice or concerns. Crystals and energy healing have not been evaluated or validated by the FDA.

While many still believe crystal healing to be “woo-woo” or witchcraft, crystals are not specific to a certain religion and can be loved or used separately from spiritual practices.

All matter in our Universe is vibrating, oscillating, and resonating at different frequencies even though we cannot see all movement with our eyes. Crystals are extremely old and hold a steady vibration (known as a dominant oscillatory rate) due to their perfect and repeating atomic structure. Crystals are formed deep within the Earth under immense heat and pressure, which creates a fixed and repeating molecular pattern. They have the most orderly and stable vibration of any material on Earth!

In the human body, each organ vibrates at different dominant oscillatory rates, and our energy fields are easily disrupted. Crystals work for healing because they help us restore our energy to a state of balance through a process called entrainment, which helps our body align with the perfect vibration of the crystal. As you progress on your crystal journey, you will notice amazing changes in your mood and health.

crystals are energy conductors

Certain crystals have special energy amplification properties called piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity and triboluminescence which illustrate why crystals make powerful metaphysical healing tools due to their ability to store, transmit, receive, and amplify energy.

Crystals are used in electronics to convert mechanical energy into a form of electricity called piezoelectricity. Piezoelectricity was discovered in 1880 by the Curie brothers, Pierre and Jacques using crystals of tourmaline, quartz, cane sugar and Rochelle salt. Piezoelectricity is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials, like crystals, when mechanical stress is applied. The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure and latent heat.

Pyroelectricity is a property of certain crystals which are naturally electrically polarized and as a result contain large electric fields. Pyroelectricity is described as the ability of certain materials to generate a temporary voltage when they are heated or cooled.

Triboluminescence is like piezoelectricity; however, it occurs because when crystals of certain substances are broken or crushed, luminescent sparkles are visible.

crystal healing throughout history

Humans have been enchanted with crystals for thousands of years. From healing elixirs in Mesopotamia to Ancient Egyptians, stones like Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, Libyan Desert Glass, and Emerald were used for protection and health. A gold and.jewel encrusted breastplate with a Libyan Desert Glass scarab was among items recovered from King Tut’s burial chamber.

Amethyst was used in Ancient Greece to prevent drunkenness. Jade has been carved, used in ceremonial weapons and jewelry in Chinese culture dating back to 6000 BC. Roman historian, Pliny the Elder, wrote about precious stones, their origins, and physical properties.

The Aztec deity Tezcatlipoca’s name means “Lord of the Smoking (Obsidian) Mirror”. Clear Quartz found in ancient Mayan caves indicates they were used in ancient healing and divination rituals.

The first references of stones in the Bible is Exodus 28:15–21. This verse in the Bible depicts 12 specific stones in a certain order on the High Priest’s breastplate, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. It is believed this protection amulet or crystal grid was to communicate with God and receive guidance on the future. Stones are mentioned many times in the Bible, however, the specific stones mentioned depend on the version of the Bible. One of the most magical verses in the Bible mentioning stones is from Revelation 21:18–20 describing New Jerusalem. While crystals are not specifically referenced for healing in the Bible, crystals are mentioned in the Bible with respect and worn for spiritual purposes.

Crystals are also mentioned in the Koran, the Vedas and other religious texts. Throughout history, we see different civilizations with documented use of placing stones on the body for healing, in protection amulets and worn in jewelry.
