Azurite, known as the “Priestess Stone”, is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. Named after the ancient Persian word “lazhward” meaning “blue” after its stunning color. It's name was changed to Azurite in 1824 by François Sulpice Beudant. Azurite is formed from the alteration of native copper and other copper minerals. It often pseudomorphs to Malachite, and are very frequently found together. Azurite has been adored since ancient times, used it as an ore of copper, pigment, gemstone, and as ornamental stone. Its use as a pigment dates back to ancient Egypt and was beloved by Cleopatra, who was enchanted with its magical powers. In ancient Chinese cultures, Azurite was known as the “Stone of Heaven” and it was believed to open a portal to the heaven. The Mayans revered Azurite as a stone of sacred knowledge and wisdom.
