Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral that ranges in color from light pink to a deep red. Rhodochrosite rarely is found with well formed crystals. The formation of Rhodochrosite usually occurs in fractures and cavities of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.
The name Rhodochrosite originates from the Greek words, rhodon meaning 'rose', and chroma meaning 'color'. The Incas called this breathtaking stone, "Inca Rose" and believed it to be the blood of their former kings and queens turned into stone.
