Richterite is a rare mineral belonging to the Amphibole group of minerals. It's composed of sodium calcium magnesium silicate. The most common color of Richterite is colorless to brown. When Richterite is dominantly composed of potassium, it can make a stunning indigo hue. In South Africa, it is associated with Sugilite, which has a similar composition. Richterite is found in the US, Antartica, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Madagascar, Myanmar, Russia, Poland and Sweden. Richterite was named in 1865 in honor of Hieronymus Theodor Richter, a minerologist and professor of chemistry at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology in Germany.
