Sodalite is a rare mineral composed of sodium aluminum silicate and chlorine. It belongs to the Feldspathoid group of Tectosilicates. Feldspathoids look like Feldspars but have a different structure and lower silica content. The mineral Sodalite is also member of the Sodalite group with Hauyne, Nosean, Lazurite and Tugtupite. Sodalite forms in igneous rocks and pegmatites. It can also be found in limestones, dolomites and in rocks ejected from volcanoes. Sodalite was first discovered in 1811 in Greenland and named after its sodium content.
