Sunstone is an enchanting plagioclase feldspar mineral, primarily composed of sodium and calcium. Its most distinctive feature is its aventurescence, a phenomenon where light reflects off microscopic inclusions of mica, hematite, goethite, or copper within the stone, creating a shimmering effect reminiscent of sunlight glinting off water. This optical phenomenon is what sets Sunstone apart from other gemstones, making it highly sought after in jewelry and carvings.

Significant deposits of Sunstone are found in several places around the world, including India, Norway, Canada, and Russia, but some of the most coveted specimens come from Oregon, USA, where copper-bearing Sunstone displays vivid red, green, and even multicolored flashes. Sunstone is named after its resemblence to our sun, and its alternative name, Heliolite.
