Garnet is the traditional January Birthstone, which is said to bring forth positive karma and good luck for those born during the Capricorn Zodiac.  According to ancient lore, Garnet was named after the Latin word Granum, meaning “seed like” due to its resemblance to Pomegranate. In Greek mythology, Hades, God of the Underworld, fell in love with Persephone (daughter of Zeus) and kidnapped her off into the underworld.  Before Hades released Persephone, he fed her sweet pomegranate seeds in hopes she would return for more.  Garnet is a Root Chakra stone, supporting the body in overall health, good fortune, safe travel and release of inflammation and toxins.
