Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that often forms in botryoidal clusters, smooth grape-like nodules, or softly translucent crystalline masses that glow from within. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, and while its structure is orderly, it does not grow in sharp points. Instead, its rounded formations allow energy to move in slow, cohesive waves through the stone rather than sharp directional bursts. This creates a feeling of continuous circulation, where energy flows evenly throughout the crystal body and outward into the surrounding field. The name Prehnite honors Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch military commander who first described the mineral in the late 18th century after specimens were discovered in South Africa. It holds the distinction of being the first mineral to be named after a person. Prehnite forms in low-temperature hydrothermal environments, commonly lining cavities in basaltic volcanic rocks where mineral-rich fluids slowly deposit layers over time. Major localities include South Africa, Mali, Namibia, Australia, China, Scotland, France, and the United States.
