Blue Tiger Eye, also known as Hawk's Eye, is the captivating blue to blue-gray variety of Tiger Eye. Its remarkable chatoyancy creates a shifting band of light across its polished surface, resembling the watchful eye of a hawk. Unlike the familiar golden-brown Tiger Eye, Blue Tiger Eye retains much of the original blue coloration associated with its iron-rich fibrous mineral inclusions, making it an extraordinary example of the geological transformation that produces the Tiger Eye family.

Tiger Eye was historically described as a pseudomorph formed when Quartz replaced Crocidolite, an iron-rich fibrous amphibole. However, a 2003 study published in Geology proposed a different formation process known as crack-seal vein-filling. During repeated episodes of fracturing, mineral-rich fluids entered openings in the rock, allowing Quartz and fibrous amphibole to grow together. Over time, these successive layers developed the parallel fibrous structures responsible for Tiger Eye's distinctive chatoyancy. As iron-bearing minerals undergo oxidation, the blue coloration can transition into the golden, brown and reddish shades characteristic of other Tiger Eye varieties.
