Chrysoprase is a variety of chalcedony, which is a form of quartz (silicon dioxide). What distinguishes chrysoprase is its vivid green color, which is attributed to traces of nickel within the crystal structure. The presence of nickel gives chrysoprase its distinctive apple-green to deep green hues. Chrysoprase has a microcrystalline structure, meaning it is composed of tiny crystals that are not visible to the naked eye.
