Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral, chemically similar to calcite, but with a different crystal structure. Pink Aragonite is a particularly rare and desirable variety, prized for its subtle, soft pink coloration. The chemical formula for Aragonite is CaCO₃. The presence of trace elements like manganese or iron in Pink Aragonite gives the stone its characteristic pale pink or rose hues. Pink Aragonite typically forms in columnar or stalactitic crystals, often exhibiting intricate patterns and textures that give it a soft, flowy appearance. It can also form in botryoidal or spherical clusters that resemble coral or small, round pearls.

The name “Aragonite” is derived from the Aragon region in northeastern Spain, where this mineral was first discovered. The region’s history of mining and mineral extraction dates back to ancient times, and it’s believed that the name “Aragonite” was adopted to honor this historical connection.

Like other varieties of Aragonite, Pink Aragonite forms in sedimentary environments, where calcium-rich solutions slowly crystallize over time.
