Lepidolite is Earth’s most abundant lithium-bearing mineral. Its a combination of various types of mica, all of which are phyllosilicate minerals. Lepidolite's chemical formula is typically K(Li, Al)3(Si, Al)4O10(F, OH)2, which indicates that it contains lithium and aluminum as its primary elements, along with potassium and iron in smaller quantities. It's named after the Greek word “lepidos” meaning "scale" and “lithos” meaning “stone”. This refers to Lepidolite's typical scaly appearance and its thin, layered structure, much like the scales of a fish.

Lepidolite is colored by Manganese in its chemical structure. Lithium is a soft, silvery, alkali metal with the lowest density of all metals. Lithium carbonate is used in mood stabilizing medication for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and mania. It is also used to make glass and enamels. Lepidolite can be found in association with other lithium-bearing minerals like Spodumene, Petalite, and Tourmaline, which are often present in the same geological environments. Lepidolite can also form alongside other minerals such as Quartz, Feldspar, and Muscovite. Its found in Brazil, the United States, Russia, Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe.
